New Music: Brandy - “Dig This”

12 03 2008

Brandy - “Dig This”

I don’t know why B Rocka keeps coming with these “Quiet Storm”/dentist’s office joints. Don’t get me wrong, this is pleasant enough to listen to, and she sounds great on it, but it just doesn’t move me the way I feel like a Brandy track should. When I first heard Bryan-Michael Cox was producing a lot of the stuff on this album, this is exactly how I worried it would turn out. But this isn’t even produced by him! The Underdogs did this one.

To me this song just goes nowhere. Like, it’s cool or whatever but there’s just too much quietness. The last bridge where she finally lets loose is a little rewarding, but it’s not enough of a payoff. This song to me sounds like they were going for Mary J.’s “Be Without You” on heroin — all lazy and tired.

Thanks 2steppin.

New Music From Around The Web

3 02 2008

Ya’ll know the drill — go listen to “new” music from around the web let us know what you think. Hot or not? Let your fellow AHM! posters know before we click it LOL.

Janet Jackson - “Feedback (Remix)” Feat. Ciara, “Rock With U,” and “Luv”

I guess Ciara was feeling left out of all the Pro-Tools goodness that is Janet’s album, so she decided to get in through the backdoor. I guess. “Luv” was produced by Rodney Jerkins as well, which I kind of like, but don’t love. “Rock With U” was produced by Jermaine Dupri, and I hated it.

Brandy - “Feel So Good”

I like it, I like it a lot. This is cearly nothing new though LOL. I’ve run out of things to say about Brandy though LOL. This sounds like an old Keith Crouch joint, but I hear it’s supposedly from the “Full Moon” days. All these leftover tracks leaking…I wonder if Atlantic is hating?

Brandy - “Doesn’t Really Matter”

More Brandy music! This is pleasant, but it’s not rocking my world. Don’t know how new this is…but it sounds recent to me.  What’s up with all these mid-tempo sleeper joints? LOL where is my “What About Us?” or “Talk About Our Love”? These lil’ mid-tempo joints are ok, and Brandy rides this one nicely as well…but I hope she starts getting some official stuff out soon. I am dying! This joint though…ehh…I give it a B+. Nothing to make me happy in the pants, YET.

Brandy Signs With Sony/Epic Maybe?

24 01 2008

I saw over at SOHH that Brandy may have gotten a deal with Sony/Epic, and that B. Michael-Cox is NOT executive producing the project. “If dere is a gawt!” Sweet Minty Peppermint Pattycake Jesus, please tell me he’s gone. I don’t want everything to sound like “Circle,” “Be Without You,” “Obvious” and all the other 50-11 piano laden tracks. Nooooo thanks. I think Timbaland, Keith Crouch, Rodney Jerkins, Babyface & Diane Warren should all come back…and give 2-3 slots to some new upcoming songwriters *likemecough*.

Though I’m not sure if signing to a major label is good anymore…but I hear that Rick Rubin brought in a killer Urban team over there, so I’m crossing my fingers and both of my side-eyes just in case!

I will be checking on this rumor with my peeps tomorrow…I will let you know if anything else surfaces!

How long has Bran-Bran-Muffin been in the business? 14 years?

Monica, who? This is my ISH right here LOL. Brandy, Tamia, Chaka and Gladys? Wrap me in swaddling clothes and put me in a manger, I’m done. Don’t act like ya’ll didn’t cry when Kang Latifah got hit with the shotties in Set It Off and the end credits rolled. That movie is and still will be a hood classic LOL!

Is Bryan-Michael Cox Helming the New Brandy Project?

9 01 2008

Rumor has it Brandy has given Bryan-Michael Cox the esteemed executive producer title for her as-yet-untitled upcoming album. It would be her first in four years.

I’m sure a lot of you, especially the rabid Brandy stans (IPS? LOL!), will have a lot to say about this. I like B. Cox — to an extent. I think he’s good for one or two tracks, and it has to be with the right artist, like Mary J. And he gets tired real fast when he uses the same damn piano intro for everything. He wore that out faster than Stargate wore out that acoustic guitar. I think having him exec produce is definitely overkill, especially for someone like Brandy who needs to reinvent herself, or at the very least, recharge what made us interested in her in the first place.

I have mad love from Brandy, but nowadays it’s more for sentimental reasons. I’d never write her off completely because she did the damn thang in the ’90s. She lost me with Full Moon and while Afrodisiac had its moments, she hasn’t been able to quite recapture my attention. Still, I’m interested to see what she can come up with this go-round. I think the last album was supposed to be the obligatory “personal, deep” album, but I think she’s gone through a lot more stuff since then that she actually has better material to write songs about now. Only time will tell — but I’m hoping this stuff about Bryan-Michael is a rumor.

No Charges For Brandy!!

28 12 2007

YES!!

Brandy will not be charged by the CHP for her accused role in a fatal accident that killed one person on the 405 freeway last year. Brandy stans rejoice! Her lawyer released a statement to the press.

Brandy’s high-powered attorney, Blair Berk, released the following statement exclusively to TMZ:

“We are extremely pleased that after a more thorough and extensive investigation by authorities, the Los Angeles City Attorney has determined that Brandy Norwood should not be charged with any crime whatsoever relating to the accident back in 2006.”

She continued, “These past 12 months have posed an extraordinary hardship for Brandy and her family, who have been unfairly forced to live under a cloud of suspicion initially caused by the ill-advised and premature press release sent out by the California Highway Patrol accusing Brandy of wrongdoing before the police investigation was even finished. However, Brandy continues to be mindful that she was so fortunate to be uninjured in this accident and there was a life lost that should be remembered.” (source) (source)

I’m so glad for her. Can we PLEASE get some new music now? Pretty pretty please Bran-Bran Nut Muffin Head?!

Sweet Minty Jesus himself said he wants a new Brandy single LOL.

Brandy’s Case May Be Wrapping Up Soon With No Charges Filed

26 12 2007

TMZ is reporting that in the case of Brandy’s accident, which has been looming over her head for the past year, she may NOT even be responsible for anything:

TMZ has learned the hang-up in deciding whether to file vehicular manslaughter charges against Brandy is that Brandy may have been a victim, not a culprit.

A CHP source tells TMZ the woman who died in the car accident involving Brandy actually struck the vehicle in front of her before Brandy made any contact. The law enforcement source says Awatef Aboudihaj, the woman who died, struck the car in front of her — which was going 65 mph, and then slammed on her brakes. We’re told the sudden stop caused Brandy to hit the dead woman’s car.

What’s more, L.A. County Coroner spokesperson Captain Ed Winter tells TMZ that toxicology reports show Aboudihaj had “slight traces” of marijuana in her system at the time of the crash.

The L.A. City Attorney has until the end of the business day on Friday to decide whether to file criminal charges against Brandy — that’s when the one-year statute of limitations runs out. Sources tell TMZ there is significant division in the City Attorney’s office, and a decision still has not been made. The problem for the City Attorney: if they file manslaughter charges, they have to prove Brandy did something negligent — and we’re told that could be difficult if not impossible. (source)

Sweet Minty Jesus be praised and Calgon take Bran-Bran Muffin away!

No, real talk though, this is potentially a great development. Hopefully, that also means that that lady’s husband will have no grounds for his civil suit, I think. If this woman was HIGH, she was the one at fault and not Brandy. Let my people go!

I am just waiting to hear a HQ version of “What Have You Done For Me?” without that terrible dude rapping. Ugh. I been wearing that song out along with that “Believer” song from Esthero featuring Brandy.

Let’s cross our fingers and hope for the best.

New Music: Esthero Feat. Brandy // Ray-J Feat. Yung Berg

12 12 2007

Esthero - “Believer” Feat. Brandy

New Esthero music! I’ve always been a closet fan of Esthero’s. She has a great, supple alto and I think her music is WAY too good for her to be so slept on. They kill me with the whole “Solange is different, let’s sign her!” There are tons of artists, different and way more soulful & talented in my opinion. Esthero’s one of them. Joi is another. j*davey is another group, though I think they have a deal now.

Anyway, song features BRANDY ON BACKGROUND VOCALS. Yes, Ms. Full Moon herself. I promptly died because their voices really compliment each other tonally, and of course, I stan hard for Brandy. This was an aural treat indeed.

I love the drums, the muted “Drumline” thing that’s going on. Crazy hot. Esthero wrote in her blog that these are only demos…wow, her demos are about as good as most folks final versions. No lie…the stuff I hear on a daily basis…

Check out her myspace too, there’s a song called “If I Didn’t Have Faith” which features Keith Crouch on piano. *rapture me Sweet Minty*

Bootleg Video of Brandy at DC Hairshow This Weekend

12 11 2007

YouTube - Direct Video Link

OK, Brandy was having technical difficulties this weekend at her performance at the Sensational Hair Show in DC this past weekend. However, she ripped “Almost Doesn’t Count” a capella live and….phew, all I can say is WE ARE WAITING FOR THAT ALBUM BRAN-MUFFIN!

SING!! She is sangin’. For real. I wish there was some better video, but the audio quality is pretty good.

I love Brandy’s voice, now and forever LOL. Killed that!

Keyshia who? I’d take a Bran-Muffin over some Keyshia Coleslaw anyday!

Did we have any AHM! representers in the house at the hairshow?

New Brandy?! “What Have You Done For Me”

31 10 2007

Brandy - “What Have You Done For Me”

I actually heard snippets of this last year, and there are some “Full Moon” references I think I heard…so I am not sure. However, the rap is new, whoever this dude is? So maybe someone got a hold of the full-length and just added their vocals.

Whatever the case, I stan for Bran-Bran Muffin Top Head and even the SLIGHTEST hint of new music makes me excited. Word to Sonya!

Brandy Looks GREAT!

17 10 2007

Brandy at Mercedes Benz Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring 2008 Collection

I think I just got the Hoy Ghost! Brandy looks GREAT! She hopped in her Alien Time Machine and went back to 1994/”I Wanna Be Down” days and got her steez back! No comments from me on this one LOL.

She really looks great, and I hope this means she is gonna be hitting the scene more and possibly working on new music. I miss Brandy. *Turns on “Sitting Up In My Room”* I think I might have to throwback some Bran-Bran Muffin today.

More pics under the jump!

Keep holdin’ that breath, Bran!

7 08 2007

Los Angeles prosecutors are reportedly “split” on the issue of whether or not to charge Brandy with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. Her fate now hangs on tests being done to figure out whether or not she tried to brake before causing a multi-car collision that killed one woman last December. (Source)

Damn, this is rough! Now I know why she is looking stressed out and all heavy in the face lately at events. A source at the city attorney’s office says: “At this point it could go either way.” Waiting to exhale, much?

New Music: Brandy - “Sweet Nothings”

15 07 2007
Brandy

ADDED DL LINK: Brandy - “Sweet Nothings”

I don’t know if this is truly new or what, it sounds like a leftover from “Afrodesiac” though.

In any case, I am a HUGE Brandy fan as my Last.fm will confirm. And Brandy can sing. Her voice has aged well and gotten better, IMO. Though her last album wasn’t as solid as “Never Say Never” or even “Full Moon,” it was still a decent project. “NSN” will always be my jam though, pretty much front to back. Everyone is allowed one bad album so I gave her a pass for “Afrodesiac.”

BRAN-BRAN GET BACK WITH RODNEY!! PLEASE!

Anyway, this song is iite. I mean, I mostly like Brandy’s arrangement of her vocals. Other than though, it just makes me sad that we might not be hearing any REAL new music from her while she handles her legal issues. Which are still B.S. by the way if you ask me.

Sad accident sure, but that’s why they call them accidents. There was no negligence on her part. It’s just a terrible, horrible accident.

Anyway, I digress.

What do ya’ll think of the song?
