Ne-Yo - “Closer”

Aight, ShaNe-Yo! This ain’t so bad. I heard it on the radio a few days ago and wanted to hate it but hearing it in higher quality it’s not so bad. I guess this club/dance music is going to be the next huge thing in R&B. I can get with it as long as they don’t pull out the robotic voices. That’ll give me flashbacks to 7th grade and that’s a place I don’t wanna be.

ShaNe-Yo Writes For A Trailer Park Mother

24 03 2008

My homegirl ShaNe-Yo is a such a talented songwriter that he can write from anyone’s perspective, even a bimbette with a couple screws lose from too many hours under the fake’n'bake. That’s right, the man who brought us “Irreplaceable”, “Irreplaceable the Male Version” “Go On Girl”, and “Irreplaceable with Chris Brown saying ‘Boo’ a lot” “With You”, along with production team Snoozegate have come up with a song for Lindsay Lohan’s new album. I’m going to go ahead and bet the ranch (my studio apartment in South Gate) that this song is going to have a lot of acoustic guitar in it.

Ne-Yo works with many stars, but also turns down a lot of them. There is simply only so much he can do. So, that he worked with Lindsay is a big deal. From MTV:

“Lindsay Lohan’s people said, ‘We would like for you to put a song together for her.’ I just viewed it as a challenge. I don’t know how to write for Lindsay Lohan. I don’t know what Lindsay Lohan is doing right now. But it’s a challenge, so I’mma give her my best. I gave her a song, and I think they really, really like it. Me and [Norwegian producing team] Stargate put something together, and she likes it.” (Source)

Turns a lot of them down, O RLY? Who exactly has he turned down? The only person who works with more artists is Lil Wayne and that doesn’t count because he’s so drugged up he’d work with a Peregrine falcon for the right amount of pills.

None of the rest of us know what Lindsay is doing right now either. I’d wager a guess it has something to do with a nightclub and coke, though. Maybe Ne-Yo can put together an acoustic guitar melody about the residue left in your nose after a long night of partying. Annoying!

Something In The Eggs Ain’t Clean

20 03 2008

Ne-Yo has recorded a duet with Fall Out Boy lead singer Patrick Stump titled “Finish Your Food” about a vengeful girlfriend who makes him breakfast in bed.

Two weeks ago, Hollywood Insider revealed that R&B crooner Ne-Yo and Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump had recorded a duet called “Finish Your Food” — which Stump said had “one of the craziest concepts for a song I’ve ever heard.” Well, we definitely wanted to hear more about these strange bedfellows, so we caught up with Ne-Yo yesterday to find out more about the Island Def Jam labelmates’ unusual tune, and his description did not disappoint.

“Imagine this,” Ne-Yo told at the Def Jam office. “You live with your girlfriend. You wake up, she makes you breakfast in bed. Puts the tray down, gives you a kiss on the forehead, and she leaves for work. You eat, you eat, you eat. You notice that there’s a letter on the tray, and the letter says, ‘I’m leaving you. Don’t get up, I’m already gone. Finish your food.’ You get up, you run downstairs, all your furniture’s gone. In the kitchen there’s more scrambled eggs. So you’re sitting on the floor in the kitchen, like, ‘What the hell is going on?,’ eating these scrambled eggs still. And then you start feeling funny. Did she poison the eggs? It leaves that question going on in your head at the end of the song.”

Ne-Yo’s hoping the sinister tale makes it onto his in-progress third CD, Year of the Gentleman, which he recently started recording. “I’d like the version with me and [Stump] to go on this album,” he says. “But I’ll be honest with you, it’s been a little bit of a fight with the label. They’re like, ‘Is the world ready for Ne-Yo and Patrick Stump?’ His fanbase is this, and my fanbase is that. We’re trying to figure out if the world is ready for those two [genres] to come together. I personally think that it’s a great idea, but it’s one of the few things that me and Def Jam tussle over.” (Source)

This is some R. Kelly shit. There’s probably gonna be a midget hiding under the sink with more eggs.

If I had to wake up to this head every morning I’d probably lose it and try to poison his ass too. I can’t get over how foul this mugshot is. He looks like he was arrested for chopping body parts into little pieces while humming “Sexy love… girl the things you do…”

I wonder if he wears hats in bed?

Ne-Yo Arrested For Reckless Driving

22 02 2008

TMZ has learned that R&B singer Ne-Yo, aka Shaffer Smith, was popped on Feb. 19 while driving through Cobb County, Georgia. That’s so sick!

Ne-Yo was arrested for reckless driving and for not having a valid license.

A picture is worth a 1,000 words, and here’s a 50,000 word thesis! Po’ thang. I am mesmerized yet disturbed by this picture ROFL. It’s like a trainwreck — I can’t look away. Like, we KNEW this, hence the hats, but seeing it is just shocking LOL.

Someone needs to call Steve Harvey’s wig crypt man or Jamie Foxx’s hair guru and get THAT handled. Or he needs to have his eyebrows take a meeting with his forehead. Po’ Ne-Yo, he about to get blasted by all the blogs for this one. LOL! He can’t help it though!

This is worse for him than getting caught with his pants down in a dark room with Omarion!!!! You know he begged and pleaded to keep his hat on too — “Please sir, PLEASE. Don’t you know who I am?!? *starts to sing “Because of You* weakly*”

All this just because he was driving recklessly and w/o a license. Don’t these celebs know that the song “Ridin’ Dirty” doesn’t just apply to Leroy driving down MLK with no tags!? Lawdhasmerceeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. *DEATH BECOMES ME*

Tell Oprah I found out “The Secret”!

New Music: Ne-Yo, Estelle, Taio Cruz, Wiz Khalifa

9 01 2008

Some new (unreleased/demo/your guess is as good as mine) Ne-Yo music as hit the ‘net and I thought ya’ll might want it.

[DL] Ne-Yo - I Was In Love

This is a pretty hot joint, even though it sounds like a demo. It also sounds like the pre-stages of Mario’s “What Is It Gonna Be” — same chords and progressions, but Ne-Yo tends to use the same set of musical tricks anyway. Him & his buddies Stargate. However, I like this joint. Shoot, I’d listen to this before I listen to anything really on “Because of You.” That album was SO medium/tepid. I actually think this track is kind of old…I feel like I heard it a while ago somewhere.

[DL] Ne-Yo - “Dream”

I’m not really feeling this one. The vocals are whatever, and it also sounds like “Irreplaceable” in a minor key. Ya’ll ain’t fooling no one! I see you, you need more people. The lyrics seem kind of forced and this definitely sounds like a demo. So I’m not stunting this track. This is what it sounds like when I try to force writing something and I’m not feeling it. It comes out sounding like this. This also kind of sounds like Mary J. Blige’s “Mirror,” that unreleased track from “Growing Pains.” Plus, I can hear someone’s computer in the background I think on this track!

Lovers’ Quarrel?

20 11 2007

Ne-Yo was kicked off of R. Kelly’s tour and he swears he doesn’t know why, but Ne-Yo’s lap-dog “business partner” Tango has another idea:

“The fans were really feeling his performances,” says Tango. “He’s good; maybe he’s too good - that’s the problem.” (Source)

I personally think it was a lovers’ quarrel. These two need to call up Kanye and 50 and go into couples’ therapy.

Rihanna Ft. NeYo - Hate That I Love You

25 09 2007

Rihanna Ft. NeYo - Hate That I Love You

Here is the video for Rihanna’s 100th single off of the album Good Girl Gone Bad. When I first heard about this song I was kind of weirded out and couldn’t imagine how they would play this one out. Rihanna singing to a black man? Ne-Yo singing to a woman? Get out of town because she’d rather sing to Michael J. Fox. Instead they never really put them in the same place and we get to watch Rihanna roll around in her hotel looking at herself, looking at herself, and looking at herself. Ne-Yo does his signature “I’m gonna dance against this wall and tilt my hat!” Look at my boy voguing in the elevator! Everything comes full circle in the end and you will see what I’m talking about. I actually kind of liked this video and I think Rihanna looked cute in it.

Video: Ne-Yo - “Can We Chill”

23 09 2007

Ne-Yo - “Can We Chill”

Schaffer, thanks for trying and playing our game! We have some lovely parting gifts for you on your way to the bottom of the charts!

Definitely no “So Sick” type hits on this last album of his…while Ne-Yo can craft some great songs, like most songwriters/producers, it doesn’t translate well all the time on the other side of the booth. Poor Swizz Beats could barely sell 50K units, even with 2 monster singles. So with the tepid chart success of Ne-Yo’s album and its singles, this song will DEFINITELY not make it past the last joint “Do You,” which I don’t think even cracked the Top 40.

And is it just me, or does he looked like he phoned this video in?

Ne-Yo videos are pretty formulaic — him semi-dancing his best MJ impression, cavorting with pretty girls, and wearing silly hats. And he’s not nearly visually stimulating enough for me to watch 4 minutes of his hat cocked over his one eye, while he makes a gas face. NOPE.

This song pretty much exemplified my whole opinion of his last album — he spent the whole album doing his best MJ impressions over tepid current tracks that pass for R&B fare.

“Do You” was a helluva good song though…that was GREAT songwriting. Great video. Should have been the first single though — would have launched his album better IMO.

The picture above ^^ on the AHM Header is more interesting visually than this video though! “It’s Poppin!”

Ne-Yo is hooking up with…

1 06 2007

Miss Info over at Hot 97 is saying that word on the street is that Karrine “Superhead” Steffans is running her mouth about dating/having sex with Ne-Yo. I didn’t even react when I read about this because none of these industry hook ups are shocking anymore. What do you guys think? Is it true?

New Ne-Yo video “Do You”

29 05 2007

Whatever. I’m just bored now and I think he is too. I like this song, though. It’s one of the few I can stand from that 1998 demo tape he calls an album. I love the settings in this (Malibu, the Hollywood Hills, etc.) and the whole sunset thing but it’s not exactly speaking to me. Glenn Lewis did the whole “we just barely missed each other” thing in 2002 and it was a lot better.
