Video: Asia Cruise - “Selfish”

Posted by J under Videos

I don’t know, this is sounding awfully Cassie to me. And the A&R who found her? He found T-Pain. Do I hear a little vocoder going on in these vocals?

This video is cheesy as hell. I don’t get it because in the beginning it seemed like they were gunning for the “High School Musical” crowd, then by the end they decided to get all sensual with it. This girl has a pleasant enough sound but I have a feeling she’s gonna suffer from the label not knowing quite what to do with her.

And can we talk about her doing the cluck cluck chicken bounce? WHAT’S THAT ABOUT?! Am I getting old? Is that the new hotness on the block?

I know “dressing up”, “appearances”, “looking non-alien” — these things have never been Macy Gray’s forte. It’s not what she’s about. But I’m mad at her looking like Cousin Elsie from “In Living Color”. This is out of hand.

Did she just land a plane in that jacket? She looks like one of those pilots who gets twisted at the bar before takeoff.

I don’t know, she looks crazy, but is this Mess of the Moment worthy? I’ll leave it up to you guys. I was thinking of letting her slide.

I guess Solange is really going through with this singing thing. Not only that, but she wants to ruin some other peoples’ careers before they’ve even started.

R&B singer Solange Knowles will be holding auditions for singers, bands and individual band members with a great look, strong musicianship and stage presence to become members of Hadley Street Dreams, her band. All members must be able to dance.

The Hadley Street Dreams, a 60s-inspired full band, will perform all live shows with Solange in support of her upcoming album to be released this August 2008 on Geffen Records, Soul Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams. (Source)

The Hadley Street Dreams? I want this to become a cult meme NOW. Let’s just say I know the theme of the next get together at my crib.

For some reason I picture Solange dressed like Punky Brewster singing about some ethereal shit. I have an idea you’re gonna have to be high to understand what’s going on in these songs. Or high to buy the album at all.

It took me about 17 tries to type “Gnarls” right. My brain just ain’t working right today.

This video is another one for the MetroPark dressing room set. There’s just nothing that blows my mind here. I’m sure Justin Timberlake was wetting himself to be in this video since he’ll do anything to seem edgy.

I think they phoned this song in. When I was listening to it I just got bored. Maybe I’m not indie enough.

Get ready to line up around the block at 7-11 for this one! Lil’ Jon is putting out his own brand of wine.

The wine, called Little Jonathan Winery, reportedly includes a merlot, chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon. The wine is already being distributed in California and will hit shelves within the next two months. (Source)

LITTLE JONATHAN?! That sounds like the name of a doll or something. Don’t you get Chucky vibes?

As for this wine, I’ve never had a taste for cat piss mixed with red Kool-Aid and a hint of Bushmills, so I probably won’t be a fan of this.

Remy Ma Trial Date Set For March 6th

Posted by Erin T. under 5-0, Remy Ma

image3581870.jpg

As you all know, Remy Ma is in hot water for shooting her friend Markeda Barnes-Joseph in the stomach last summer for supposedly stealing $2,000 out of her purse. Why did she have $2,000 in cash in her purse just chillin’? We’ll never know but what we do know that is if she is convicted she could get up to 25 years.

The jury selection process in Remy Ma’s assault and witness tampering case will kick off next week.

As reported earlier, Remy is accused of shooting Makeda Barnes-Joseph in the abdomen inside a car after they both left a Manhattan nightspot in July 2007.

Remy was initially charged with attempted murder but prosecutors would drop the charges to assault after evidence revealed that the gun went off accidentally.

The Bronx bred rapper is free on $250,000 bond.

The witness tampering charges stem from an August 2007 attack on the boyfriend of a witness at a Bronx nightclub which prosecutors claim Remy orchestrated with the help of her male friends.

According to USA Today, a Manhattan judge today (February 28) scheduled March 6th as the beginning date for jury selection in the case.

Remy, who has denied the charges, could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

Apples & Tip Get Artsy With Trace

Posted by J under Get It!, Magazine Scans, Photos

Erykah Badu and Q-Tip covered Trace Magazine’s April ‘08 issue for their art special. This shit reminds me of an LTD album cover my parents used to have, and I mean that in a good way! Ms. Badu looks great here, real fresh in the face, so much so that I’m going to avoid a joke about that Spirit Halloween Store wig falling off. Oops, does that count as a joke? Whatever. And Tip? He’s my dude. I just kind of wished they decided to redo the Janet Rolling Stone cover and have Apples covering Tip’s bitties. Just a thought.

Speaking of Badu, AHM! reader MissOMyGoodnezz shared a gang of goodies she got from attending a performance and album signing Erykah did in Dallas, TX. That exclusive material will be posted on here shortly, so stay tuned.

The picture was given to us via e-mail but originated here. Thanks.

It’s another hot, sunny day here in Los Angeles which means I’m dreading going to work and doing anything related to school. When it gets like this (especially in February), I start longing for summer. But even then I don’t really have time off to just be laying around and mess. That’s why I get nostalgic for this one hit wonder, which pretty much epitomizes every summer as a kid. This song still goes hard and I still play it to this day! This video is a bit sloppy but it has its cool moments, as well. I wonder what Ahmad is doing now? I’m sure if I went down to the Slauson Swap Meet I’d see him there selling mixtapes or something.

As for news today, it’s slow slow slow. Which is good because I’m pretty swamped, but I’ll be checking in periodically throughout the day. In the meantime, check out these posts from some of our favorite blogroll buddies.

The new game show “Moment of Truth” on FOX pits contestants against a string of increasingly uncomfortable questions that they must answer truthfully in order to win money. If they answer one untruthfully, they lose all the money they’ve earned from answering other devastating questions candidly.

Watch this chick admit to punking her husband out in a plethora of ways, and then losing at the last minute on a stupid question. This is what you get for being greedy and thinking anything is worth a little bit of scratch. This show is a fiery mess.

Props to jaycurtis for the heads up.

Gary Coleman and new wife Shannon Price came on “The Today Show” and got interviewed by Al Roker. You know it’s a time-filler when the weatherman is interviewing your ass. I’m dead at him saying he wishes people recognized him for better things than “Diff’rent Strokes”, like an ONLINE PROMOTION FOR “I CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S NOT BUTTER”.

Shannon looks dazed and confused. Either she really didn’t know he was famous when she decided to get married or she’s dumb as hell, because I think I might make as much money in a year as Gary Coleman does.

Props to Jessica for the heads up.

Mariah’s first video from her upcoming album, featuring Jack McBrayer from “30 Rock”. I’ve been hella scared to post this because I heard Mimi’s people aren’t messing around with the videos and links and such, so let me preface this by saying MARIAH AND/OR MARIAH’S PEOPLE: PLEASE E-MAIL US IF YOU WANT US TO TAKE IT DOWN! PLEASE DON’T TAKE OUR SHIT OUT THE GAME THE WAY SOME OTHERS HAVE! I heart you, MC.

All ass-kissing aside, I think Mariah looks fantastic in this video. She’s definitely got the body back. This video is amusing but I’m sure it will get old seeing as all the stations will be playing it three times an hour.

Video: Jay-Z - “I Know”

Jay-Z’s new video for “I Know”, featuring Zoe Kravitz. I really don’t know what’s going on in this but I did enjoy the cinematography. I’m sure there’s some deeper artistic meaning that I’m missing but hey, all I do all day is post pictures of Rihanna. My senses are a little bit numb.

Maxim magazine has apologized to Nas for reviewing his album “Nigger” — giving it 2.5 stars — because the album hasn’t even been completed yet.

RAPPER Nas was shocked when Maxim gave his new album, “N - - - - r,” a 21/2-star review - because it isn’t even finished yet. “I’m finishing the album now, and it will be out April 22,” Nas told Page Six. Maxim has since apologized for the premature review, but Nas doesn’t care. “I’d prefer [a review from] Playboy,” the rapper said. “That kind of stuff doesn’t reach my radar or effect anybody around me. I don’t know what a music rating from Maxim is . . . I don’t know what it even means really.” Maxim also reviewed the Black Crowes’ album, “War Paint,” without listening to it in its entirety. (Source)

Are we really surprised by this? I mean it’s not like Woodward and Bernstein are running Maxim. LOL @ Nas shitting on them.

Bobby Brown has evaded jail time in Brockton, Massachusetts after getting caught with cocaine there in December. Instead, Brown has been given one year community service MENTORING KIDS. Why do they kids have to get punished for his crime?

He got his wish and no criminal charges will issue, as Brown opted to carry out community service by mentoring children and young adults in the underprivileged city.

Brown’s attorney Stephanie Soriano told the Boston Herald that the 39-year-old singer will begin community service within a couple of months. (Source)

I guess I’ve been living under a rock because I didn’t realize he got busted AGAIN, or maybe no one reported it because that would be like reporting that the sun rose this morning.

I’m mad at them thinking Bobby Brown would be a good choice to mentor kids from the ‘hood. They already have enough problems without having to hear “Humpin’ Around” on repeat while being forced to line up that cocaina on top of a “Power Rangers” lunchbox.

Janet came out to the Best Buy in Times Square wearing a maltipoo on her head to sign copies of her new album Discipline. I’m still laughing at those skits she did for MTV so I’m going to let this slide.

This question is strictly for the non-stans, because I know y’all already got 17 copies on pre-order, but how are the rest of you feeling about buying this album? I will admit “Feedback” has grown on me but I’m not sure if it’s enough for me to take interest in a full album. How about everyone else?

Two more pics after the jump. (Image source)
