James Evans Just Made Florida Roll Over In Her Grave…

5 11 2007

In this day and age when Bruce Springsteen can only sell 77,000 copies on a GOOD week, who in the Blue Magic 8 Balls gives a record deal to JOHN AMOS!

Wipe me down with Peppermint Tea please, I need to get ready to drop my 16 bars on this joint HEAH!

John Amos, who currently stars in the ABC comedy “Men in Trees,” is releasing an album of country music titled “We Were Hippies” in the wake of his relationship with members of the legendary Cash family.

The actor – who became a household name in the seventies for such iconic roles as Kunta Kinte in the mini-series “Roots” and James Evans in the CBS sitcom “Good Times” – has signed a five-album deal with Music Row Records Nashville, which is run by CEO Gene Cash.

“Country Music is all about storytelling. That’s what makes John perfect for this genre,” said Gene Cash. “We worked with him closely and helped him discover his singing voice as well. John Amos is country music.”

“Damn, damn, DAMN!” I mean, really? Someone please book John for a grandad role on your next Black movie. CLEARLY he needs something to do!

I’mma get this joint as soon as i get my “Boxed Whine for Christmas,” which is the 24th of Nevurary, as my homie Katt Williams says. This may very well be good, but, ummmm. I doubt it.

If John Amos is country, than I am the 2nd Coming of Luther Vandross. Never too much!

Cuzzo, I do too. Whenever you saw those nostrils flaring, you know James was pissed off about something.

Seriously though, it’s not April 1. IPS, why are you trying to play us for fools? This can’t be real. And if it is, please post as soon as you get a snippet of the first cut.

I wonder who would buy Kunta Kinte’s album. No but seriously, I love his roles. He should have a part on Law & Order or something. At least a two-bit part on a reality TV show. Put him on the season finale of the Amazing Race or something. This dude needs to be on the Surreal life.

This is, well, an “interesting” development, to say the least; however, I will say that John Amos is TALENTED - college football star, took ballet as a part of drama training - I wouldn’t be at all suprised if he had a great singing voice.
Hopefully whatever he does will lean more towards the blues (it’d pretty much have to, wouldn’t it) than the “i-hit-my-cow-with-my-car-’cause-my-wife-left-me-and-i’m-an-American” type dreck.

His stage name is Toby. I’m just playin’. I’ve heard some of the songs. They aren’t terrible. He’s passable. I don’t know how in the heck he talked them into a FIVE record deal his frst time around. I think Cash just wants more publicity for his label. BTW he isn’t the only Black man in country these days.

Why do we have to always box our selves in. We think as black people we can only listen to this or we can only do this. If he likes country music that is his perrogative.

If you all knew you history you would know that the first country singer was a black person. And that most of the country music that has been written was written by black people.

They changed the title for black people to blues music which later became rhythm and blues. Do your homework before you start putting people down. If you never heard him sing before how do you know what it wil sound like.
